Home Comforts: The Future American Home for Millennials (GenY)
by A. Montalbano on 02/13/14
Every year, the home builders industry holds its annual exhibition of new designs, styles, colors, appliances, products and technology available to the American consumer. More often, the coming attractions are being modeled after natural surroundings. Interestingly enough, attention to an eco way of life and how society will conserve space better are the highlighted trends.
Robotics. Presently, home building takes months to complete. In the future, robotic technology will increase the pace to perhaps 1 week or less.
Eco Home. Rainwater/Sun rays will be channeled into a reservoir/panels of a house and used for cooling, heating, energy and even for food gardens.
Into Nature. Homes will be designed into natural settings such as tree houses, floating homes on the lake, or homes carved into the rocks.
Recycled. Usage of newly recycled material in the construction of energy homes.
Pre-Fab Homes. Newly designed flexible materials will allow for the consumer to construct their own homes.
Small is best. McMansions are out, compact is in. Homes will be smaller with less kitchen space and more pet space.
Within Walking Distance. Communities will offer more walking distance amenities fit for both walking and biking rather than car dependency. Shuttles and dependable mass transit is key.
